Respite Care
At Tri-State LifeCare, we understand that in-home caregivers, at times, need a vacation or break for the benefit of their own personal health and well-being. Tri-State LifeCare (TLC)’s Respite Care program can provide that break by offering short-term, inpatient care and services at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House (EDJHH) for medically eligible palliative patients. The determination about medical eligibility is determined by a Tri-State LifeCare provider. This temporary placement in the EDJHH provides your loved one with around-the-clock care for up to one week.
This service is best fit for patients whose symptoms and day-to-day needs temporarily require care beyond what can be administered in the home but that can primarily be provided by a certified nursing assistant.
Our Respite Care team works with you, your family and your primary care physician to develop a plan of care and a discharge plan. If at any time your medical needs exceed the level of services provided by the Respite Care program, you may be transferred to another type of service.
While a respite patient is under our care at the EDJHH, the care team may consult with TLC providers for ongoing medical needs or any urgent medical concerns. TLC providers, however, do not provide routine visits. Medications, provided by you or your family for the patient, will be administered by a licensed nurse.
Although a respite patient must be onsite at least 50 percent of the time to maintain occupancy in the EDJHH, patients can leave the House with family or friends, with prior approval. Family members or guests may visit at any time. Children, grandchildren and even pets are welcome to visit, with proper supervision.
Palliative respite patients can also bring some small items from home to personalize their living area.
The Respite Care program is a private pay service. If an anticipated stay is longer than two weeks, arrangements for short-term residency will apply.
